On 11 December 2024, the MGIMO AI Centre jointly with the Federal Centre for Applied Development of Artificial Intelligence organised a session within the framework of the UNIDO AIM Global
Forum.
The Global Alliance on AI for Industry and Manufacturing (AIM Global) Forum (UNIDO) is being held for the first time on 11-13 December in Vienna under the auspices of UNIDO.
In the course of the Forum, the MGIMO AI Centre held a session ‘Advancing the Expansion of Artificial Intelligence Systems in Industry’.
The AIM Global Forum serves as a multi-stakeholder discussion platform for sharing best practices and success stories from different countries and industries on the effective and ethical application of AI technologies to increase productivity, promote sustainable industrial development, foster innovation, and bridge the digital divide and socio-economic inequality.
The session was moderated by Anna Abramova, Director of the MGIMO AI Centre and Scientific Director of the Master's Programme ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (MGIMO x ADV Group), member of the UN Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.
The roundtable participants discussed tools to stimulate the implementation of systems using AI technologies in industry, as well as various steps in this area, including those related to the creation of databases of AI solutions and best practices for their implementation, the provision of specialised consulting services, and measures to improve systems using AI. Business representatives shared their assessments of existing mechanisms to support AI implementation and initiatives to improve their efficiency. The main challenges faced by the industry when implementing AI, as well as ethical aspects of the technology application were discussed. In particular, the experts touched upon the following aspects of AI development in industry:
- E.B.Shantaev, Director General of the Federal State Autonomous Institution ‘Federal Centre for Research and Development of AI’, ‘Non-financial support for the implementation of systems with artificial intelligence in industry’;
- A.V.Abramova, Director of the MGIMO AI Centre (moderator of the session), ‘International Dimension of AI Implementation in Industry: Activities of the UN Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence’;
- A.V.Tyulkanov, consultant on AI and data management, member of the French Commission on Standardisation and the European Committee for Standardisation, ‘Technical standards as a key driver of trusted artificial intelligence’;
- N.I.Vorobyev, NLMK Group's Director of Occupational Health and Safety (ex- ESG), ‘Digital ESG solutions in metallurgy’;
