The International Conference "Artificial Intelligence: Ethical and Professional Challenges for Communication and Journalism."
On July 1st, the international conference "Artificial Intelligence: Ethical and Professional Challenges for Communication and Journalism" took place. At the event, the Director of the MGIMO AI Centre, A.V. Abramova, presented the latest developments related to an index for assessing the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence, titled "Assessment of Ethical Aspects of Artificial Intelligence at National and International Levels. Approach to Index Structure and Methodology."
Speakers presented reports on the following topics:
  • Uniformity of the press as a result of AI progress
  • Dangers of AI and communication
  • Communication aspects in mitigating threats of global security from malicious programs
  • AI, media, and communication in Russia
  • GPT chat in communication training
Anna Vladimirovna shared her latest research with the scientific community regarding the index for assessing the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence. The research focuses on the "Assessment of Ethical Aspects of Artificial Intelligence at National and International Levels. Approach to Index Structure and Methodology."
The work proposes a methodology for a possible global ethical assessment of AI using an index, centered around stakeholders such as governments, businesses, civil society, and research centers. The structure contains relevant indicator groups that reflect ethical aspects for both developers and users.
The Global AI Ethics Index system could serve as a basis for assessing ethical impact, in combination with OECD AI Recommendations and Principles, and as a foundation for AI classification. The methodology is human-centered and involves all key stakeholders throughout the entire AI system lifecycle. Data for the index could be sourced from existing UNESCO, OECD, UNCTAD databases, and more.
The report was prepared as part of the "Priority 2030" program in both Russian and English languages. "Assessment of Ethical Aspects of Artificial Intelligence at National and International Levels. Approach to Index Structure and Methodology" is the first publication in the research collection "Artificial Intelligence for Development."
