Anna Abramova participated in the International Technology Congress in the course of the session on AI regulation in BRICS countries
On 17 September 2024, Anna Abramova, Head of the MGIMO AI Centre, spoke at the International Technology Congress. She took part in the session ‘Roundtable on regulating relations in the field of AI technologies in BRICS countries’ moderated by Kirill Dorozhkin, Executive Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at St. Petersburg State University.

During the discussion, Anna Abramova reflected on the current areas of cooperation between the BRICS countries in international formats, and separately highlighted new formats of interaction. ‘It is important not to underestimate the development opportunities of the new BRICS member countries in the field of AI. It is important to expand the formats of interaction on the BRICS platform, which will make the association even more attractive for international cooperation not only for the member countries, but also for potential new partners,' said the Head of the MGIMO AI Centre.

The panelists included leading experts in the field of law and technology. Among them were Vladislav Arkhipov, Doctor of Law, Professor and Head of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law at St. Petersburg State University; Alexandra Komleva, Russian expert on international AI standards from the HSE University; and representatives of law firms: Maria Agranovskaya, Managing Partner at Agranovskaya & Partners, and Daria Ermolina, PhD in Law and Partner at Denuo.

The International Technology Congress is notable for its focus on the dynamics of interaction between information and communication technology (ICT) industries, including such applied areas as telecommunications, space technologies, digital government services, fintech and other consumer technologies. Particular attention is paid to access to foreign markets and co-operation with business communities of friendly countries within the BRICS+ format. The event is organised with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is attended by representatives of relevant government agencies, businesses and partners from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
