MGIMO AI Centre Holds a Session at the AI for Good Summit in Geneva
On 7 July, the MGIMO AI Centre held the session “AI in Creative Industries: New Market Segment or Still an Enabler of Development?” at the AI for Good venue as part of the UN Digital Week in Geneva.

The invited speakers were Wernhard Berger, Senior Advisor for AI, Digital Economy and Transformation at UNIDO; Borislav Volodin, Director of the ArtMasters National Open Championship; Christian Thiam, Lecturer-Researcher at Cheikh Hamidou Kane Digital University; and Vincent F. Valentine, Economic Affairs Officer, Trade in Systems, Services and Creative Economy Branch, Division on International Trade and Commodities, UNCTAD. The session was moderated by Anna Abramova, Director of the Centre.

The integration of AI into the creative industries is uneven and fragmented, which raises a natural question: is AI a tool for broader sectoral development or a market segment in its own right? Research on the economic impact of AI adoption and on the existing legal barriers remains limited, making expert dialogue essential. The session highlighted the need to study newly emerging market segments, industry exports and the development of services that support them. At the same time, the uncontrolled use of algorithms may pose a threat to national identity, which makes the preservation of cultural heritage and traditions important.

The MGIMO AI Centre's participation in the AI for Good Summit is carried out under the Priority-2030 development programme.
