The MGIMO AI Centre participated in the International Forum for AI Filmmakers “Generator”, which is taking place on March 14–15 at the ATOM Museum at VDNH.
The event brought together representatives of the film industry (directors, artists, producers, developers) and experts from related fields from Russia and foreign countries, inter alia France, China, India, Tunisia, Kazakhstan, and Singapore, in order to discuss the prospects for implementing AI technologies in film production and the tools already in use for generating both short videos and more complex works.
Alyona Tsypakova, a research associate at the MGIMO AI Centre, participated as a legal expert in the panel discussion "AI Film Co-production: A New Language of Cultural Diplomacy", moderated by Forum organizer Pavel Peregudov. She has pointed out that from a legal perspective, any film project, including those involving AI, touches upon intellectual property law, co-production contract law, compliance with sanctions and export-financial restrictions, as well as regulations governing personal data and digital images, which requires a comprehensive approach to the issue. National legal frameworks change more slowly, whereas technical standards allow for flexible and rapid achievement of goals.
At the end of the session, the importance of intra- and intergovernmental dialogue between the industry, academia, and government agencies was emphasized to coordinate efforts.
